Invitation message ICRP 2015 – Dr. Claire Cousins

It is a great pleasure for ICRP to hold its 3rd International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection in Seoul, Korea. Continuing the success of the first two Symposia held in USA and UAE, I am sure this Symposium will offer opportunity for many professionals to discuss the challenges faced in radiological protection today and in years to come. These biennial symposia are a cornerstone of ICRP’s efforts to engage as many individuals and organisations working in radiological protection as possible, and to collaborate on ideas and in areas of mutual interest. The diversity of the programme should stimulate both discussion and debate. I would very much like to thank our Korean colleagues for their dedicated time and effort in helping to organise this Symposium, and our supporters for helping make ICRP 2015 possible.

I look forward to meeting you all in Seoul in October.

Invitation message ICRP 2015 – Dr. Il Han Kim

On behalf of the Korean Organization Committee (KOC), I would very much like to invite everyone to ICRP 2015: the 3rd International Symposium on the System of Radiological Protection. It is particularly gratifying that the Symposium and ICRP Commission and Committee meetings are taking place in Seoul, the heart of Korea.

The 1st Symposium was held in Bethesda, USA in 2011 and the 2nd Symposium was held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Strategic Plan that ICRP developed for 2011-2017 included finding ways of establishing closer collaboration with the many people and organizations involved in radiological protection. Biennial symposia are the result of this effort and are also part of the strategy to both develop openness and continue the evolution of ICRP.

The ICRP Symposium provides a platform for knowledge sharing and best practices which will help support national capacity building towards managing these activities safely for a sustainable future. We look forward to engaging world class experts about radiation protection and for the opportunity to discuss current and emerging issues on the subject. We also hope that the visitors to Korea have an opportunity to experience the culture of this remarkable and hospitable country.

Seoul, the foremost city that represents the Republic of Korea, cherished a 600-year history as the country’s capital along with numerous outstanding traditional cultural resources. The legendary Indian poet and Nobel laureate ‘Rabindranath Tagore’ once described Korea as “a bright light of the East.” His intention was to highlight the splendid culture, as well as the national characteristics of creativity and courtesy. I hope you could experience it in person by joining the International Commission on Radiological Protection at ICRP 2015.

Finally, I hope this Symposium will allow many professionals to exchange views on some of the most challenging topics that radiological protection needs to address both today and in the future. By working together and sharing out thoughts and ideas, the System of Radiological Protection will continue to improve for the benefit of all.
